“Your Song of Excellence: Duo Legacy” showcases amazing singing talent Filipinos

 

Filipinos are gifted with musical talent. Singing competitions has proven time and again to be a big ticket for those aspiring for stardom in the local music scene.

And this was more evident during the Grand Finals of one of the longest running top notch singing and songwriting competition in the country, now in its fourth season, “Your Song of Excellence: Duo Legacy,” held last Saturday (Aug 31) at Market! Market! in Taguig City, which was hosted by Nicole Asensio, herself a multi-awarded singer-songwriter, and an accomplished host and theater actress.

 

Unlike the previous seasons of “Your Song of Excellence,” this year’s format involved singing-songwriting duos battling it out with other pairs from all over the country, who gave their all during the audition, preliminaries, the semifinal stages and ultimately, the grand finale, where three duos were chosen.

 

 

 

During the grand finals, each duo was given the herculean task of performing two full songs—a Taiwan Excellence Jingle and a Taiwan Excellence Core Value Song, with a maximum length of 3 minutes and 30 seconds.

 

The Taiwan Excellence Jingle should make use of the words “Taiwan Excellence” and the “The Best Made in Taiwan.” For the second song, the mentor-judges and their Duo Grand Finalist must choose one of the core values of Taiwan Excellence—innovation, interesting, sustainability, global quality—and make that core value as the theme for their song.

 

The competition leading up to the grand finals was tough and arduous. Finally, the Top 3 singing duos duked it out for one last time on August 31, 2024 to determine the winner. The task of choosing only one winner out of the three grand finalists proved to be even tougher for the judge-mentors, celebrity judges Yeng Constantino, the country’s pop rock royalty, multi-awarded singer-songwriter, Ice Seguerra, multi-awarded singer-songwriter, actor, TV host and producer, Paulo Zarate, multi-awarded music producer and songwriter, and Kean Cipriano, multi-awarded singer-songwriter, music producer, and the newest member of the judging and mentoring panel.

 

 

 

 

But there can only be one grand winner.

 

 

 

When the smoke of battle had cleared, it was Mandarhyme Duo, composed of Rusty Loayon and Janine Loayon, who prevailed and won a whopping P300,000 as the Grand Winner.

 

First Runner Up was Haranajeeb Duo, composed of Khen Aldovino and Nephtali Fajardo, who took home P200,000, while The Unexpected Duo, composed of Vench Larenas and Renz Salazar went home with P100,000 as the Second Runner Up.

 

But more importantly, the crowd that packed the venue, composed of supporters and weekend crowd, all cheered on each of the excellent performances of the grand finalists, proving once again that excellence in the art of singing is something that Filipinos and the Philippines can be truly proud of.

 

 

The “Your Song of Excellence: Duo Legacy” was made even more spectacular and meaningful with the presence of officials from event organizer Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) namely, Mr. Brian Lee, Executive Director of Strategic Marketing Department of TAITRA and Mr. Alex Lai, Director of Taiwan Trade Center Manila, and officials from the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines, led by Mr. Wallace Chow, Ambassador of TECO in the Philippines, and Ms. Josephine Shun, Director of Economic Division, TECO Philippines.

This competition not only showcases the incredible talent of Filipino singers and songwriters but also highlights the shared passion for music between the Philippines and Taiwan,” says Brian Lee, Executive Director of Strategic Marketing Department of TAITRA.

 

Lee also expressed pride in TAITRA's role in launching this event, adding, "We are particularly proud to have introduced this celebration of musical excellence to the Philipines. Taiwan’s “Your Song of Excellence: Duo Legacy” Grand Finals to be staged at Market! Market!

 

After an exhilarating show of immense talent and healthy competition from our duos, the nationwide singing-songwriting competition, “Your Song Of Excellence: Duo Legacy”, organized by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and co-presented by its premier partner Derma Angel, closes its semi-finals round with a bang!

Each pairing showcased impressive songwriting acumen that translated into unforgettable performances both on and offstage. This meant that our celebrity judges Yeng Constantino, Ice Seguerra, Kean Cipriano, and Paulo Zarate certainly had their hands full with deciding on who gets to move forward. With musical director Paulo Zarate himself stating that the challenge this time around is of a different level due to the variety of genres and the pure undeniable skill of the hopefuls.'

The musical competencies which the duos displayed already make each of them winners in their own regard, but alas, as with any competition there will only be a chosen few that gets to move on to the grand finals stage. With this knowledge in tow, each semifinalist set out to prove why they are the ones deserving of a spot.

From thousands of auditionees, to twelve amazing semifinalists, now we are down to just three grand finalists. Meet the duos that will go head-to-head for this season’s grand finals stage!

Their challenges don’t end here as their next task is to compose two full songs with the maximum duration of 3:30 minutes, which they will in turn perform live on the grand finals stage. The first being a Taiwan Excellence jingle that must contain the words “Taiwan Excellence” and the tagline “The Best Made In Taiwan”. And the second song will revolve around one of Taiwan Excellence’s core values, to be chosen by the duo and their mentor – innovation, interesting, sustainability and quality.

 

Who will be the one to claim the ultimate prize and be crowned grand champions? Will it be the entertaining hip hop couple - Mandarhyme Duo? The indie pop aficionados - The Unexpected Duo? Or the reggae virtuosos - HARANAJEEB? Everything has been leading up to this moment.

“Your Song of Excellence” new season goes “twice” as grand in musicality and excellence

 

IT’S been three slam-bang seasons already for musical competition “Your Song of Excellence,” but this year’s edition, co-presented by premier partner Derma Angel Philippines, will be “twice” in size and grandeur, and aptly called “Your Song of Excellence: Duo Legacy!”

 

This year’s version is perfectly titled since “Your Song of Excellence: Duo Legacy” will present twice the power of vocal quality and innovative musicality of Filipino musicians, from singer-songwriter partners, instrumentalists and singer-couples, to passionate pairs of singers and songwriters who aspire to leave their legacy and raise the bar of excellence in the local music scene.

 

And just like before, “Your Song of Excellence: Duo Legacy” will be brimming with an array of exceptional musical talent where once again, the Filipino brand of music that’s renowned globally will take centerstage, coupled with exciting prizes and extraordinary products from the show’s sponsors that await the winners.

 

Tasked to do hosting chores for this year’s “Your Song of Excellence” will again be Nicole Laurel Asensio. She is also an accomplished singer-songwriter who has an established musical foundation honed to perfection, being part of a family that has made a name in the world of music and theater in the Philippines.

 

For this year, there will be a new face that will grace the roster of familiar names in the local music world who will act as judges but also as mentors for this year’s competition. Singer-songwriter Kean Cipriano, the former premier vocalist of pop-rock band Callalily, and who is now also a solo artist with his own music label, will also be having the unenviable task of choosing the next big singing-songwriting duo in the local music scene.

 

Kean will join singer-composer and pop-rock artist par excellence Yeng Constantino, exceptional music producer and songwriter Paulo Zarate, and singer-songwriter, actor and director Ice Seguerra. Their task of choosing from the roster of singing-songwriting aspirants will be made twice as difficult, but winning this year’s competition will be definitely twice as rewarding for the lucky winning pair.
